Default copyapp problem in ingres 9.2.0 for linux - 06-08-2009 , 09:50 PM

Hello,

A problem has emerged when compiling ABF applications under Ingres 9.2.0 (int.lnx/143), and it occurs also in 9.1.1

The installations were upgraded from Ingres 9.0.4 (int.lnx/105).

The database was successfully reloaded into the 9.2.0 intallation from an unloaddb.

ABF applications were recompiled successfully.

But when 'copyapp in....' is subsequently used to refresh the application, imageapp returns lots of errors like:

#
Processing form 're000_menu' . . .
Forcing compilation to create object file.
Compiling '179441.c' . . .
179441.c:63: error: expected identifier or â(â before â=â token
E_AB001E Compilation failed
The compilation of
'/opt/Ingres/IngresII/ingres/abf/school/retrospect/179441.c' failed with
status '1'. This could mean either that the compiler could not be run
or that it ran and returned an error.

Compilation failed.
#

If the application is changed to use non-compiled forms, then the compiles are OK and the application can be used successfully.

So does the newer 'copyapp in...' do something to forms on the way in, which the compiler doesn't like?

To further confuse things, if I create a new test database and copyapp to that, then the compiles are OK. Indeed I can copyapp out
and in as much as I like, and they are still OK.

But a 'copyapp out' from the test database, then back in to the production database and try to compile the production application,
then it's no go again!

Compiled forms are preferred, to stop users from hacking in and changing them, and enabling the distribution of just the executables.

As a matter of interest, I took the copyapp binary from a 9.0.4 installation, and used it in a 9.2.0 installation succesfully.

Can anybody suggest another way around this problem, please?

Thanks,
BB

It would be worth doing:
- use '-r' option while copyapp in, to replace existing object
and/or
- remove all objects by hand from
$ING_ABFDIR/ingres/abf/<db>/<application> and imageapp

Will these help?

Issue 136267 has been reported to Ingres Support by me on 30. april 2009, as a conflict starting after patch-fix for other issue early February 2009.
Our platform is by the way AXP.OSF (TRU64) on both 9.1.1 and 9.2.0.

Problem seems to arise from that the compiled form seems to pass 99999 in
Objectnumbering (first jumped from 99999 to 237xxxx, newer patch-fixes with more normal incrementation), but still an issue for imageapp.

No help with delobj and -r flag as it's the incremental numbering for new forms that's making the issue, as incremental happens when importing several apps. Except maybe by deleting all apps and forms in the database...

Example program supplied to Ingres Support with 2 applications with 2 Frames in each (no specific code other than initilize and one command with return.
One of the Frames is the shared between the 2 applications and keeps its numbering while the other jump in sequence for each additional load.

After 3599 "loads" it passes 99999 in numbering and no longer compiles.

Which of course happens a lot faster when having several apps with lot of frames.

Kind regards

Thank you for that information, Henrick.

I can confirm that it's something to do with the number of loads.

We have many apps (20+), and about 1000 frames.
Here's what I did:

created a new database.

ran "copyapp in" for all the apps
compiled an app.

I repeated the copyapp & compile several times.
After the 4th "copyapp in", the compile failed.

Do you have any information on a fix for the issue you raised?

Bob Borbiro.

Unfortunately the speed in understanding the serious problem and how easy it is to replicate the problem is not the fastest for this issue as it use to be.

My Easy Shell-job for replicating the problem is - run this until application no longer builds:

Application 1 has 2 frames Frame1 and FrameBoth
Application 2 has 2 frames Frame2 and FrameBoth

For support issue the apps is supplied as well.

The build-proces ends in our case at number 003599 :-) when the Forms Object.id passes 100.000.

#!/bin/ksh

$ING_ABFDIR/ingres/abf/<db>/<application> and imageapp

Will these help?

Default Re: [Info-Ingres] copyapp problem in ingres 9.2.0 for linux - 07-15-2009 , 02:19 AM

Don't believe it's solved already in a patch out as latest "bugfix" is created in Ingres internal codefix last night (14. july) to be passed through for Future patches if no additional issues found.

Kind regards

Thanks again, Henrik.

I see that it is mentioned as a bug fix in p13411.
Hopefully the problem is resolved. I have not installed it yet.

Issue 136267 has been reported to Ingres Support by me on 30. april 2009, as
a conflict starting after patch-fix for other issue early February 2009.
Our platform is by the way AXP.OSF (TRU64) on both 9.1.1 and 9.2.0.

Problem seems to arise from that the compiled form seems to pass 99999 in
Objectnumbering (first jumped from 99999 to 237xxxx, newer patch-fixes with
more normal incrementation), but still an issue for imageapp.

No help with delobj and -r flag as it's the incremental numbering for new
forms that's making the issue, as incremental happens when importing several
apps. Except maybe by deleting all apps and forms in the database...

Example program supplied to Ingres Support with 2 applications with 2 Frames
in each (no specific code other than initilize and one command with return.
One of the Frames is the shared between the 2 applications and keeps its
numbering while the other jump in sequence for each additional load.

After 3599 "loads" it passes 99999 in numbering and no longer compiles.

Which of course happens a lot faster when having several apps with lot of
frames.

It would be worth doing:
- use '-r' option while copyapp in, to replace existing object
and/or
- remove all objects by hand from
$ING_ABFDIR/ingres/abf/<db>/<application> and imageapp

Will these help?

It's definitely not in patch 13411. That patch was dated 2 July, and the
highest numbered bug fix is 122217. Bug 122276 is still not marked as
"Submitted" in our internal bugs system.
