Default upgrade? - 08-22-2003 , 10:00 AM

GlacierWe discovered a few days ago a latent bug in 7.31TD2 wherein IDS does
not always
shutdown when Win2000 is rebooted.
This sometimes causes PANIC, and you are in Hell and have to restore.
We've gone to shutting down the service manually before a boot.

IBM has a patch for this behaviour, but you have to buy support to get any
bug fixes.
Microsoft (and others) usually give bug fixes for free. (Granted, MS has
alot more bugs).
Is there no way to get a patch without getting contract from IBM?

Microsoft (and others) also charge you for the upgrades to their software
(charge you for the next "major" version of Windows, SQL Server, etc. etc.)
but Informix (IBM) does not. Your support agreement covers enhancements as
well (not just "bug fixes"), not to mention unlimited access to phone
support. This is just a different model of support pricing (in my opinion
you get a lot more for your money than "buying" upgrades) which is, in my
opinion, a lot more suitable model for mission critical software.
