upgrade to 11.70.TC3IE from 11.70.TC1IE -

I was unable to get 11.70.TC3IE to install over the 11.70.TC1IE installation so I uninstalled TC1, leaving the spaces, installed TC3, let it create and instance, and then shutdown, edit the config to change the ROOTPATH and ROOTSIZE to agree with the old spaces from TC1 and then restart IDS . At first I thought it had crashed, but the next day I found all 7 dbspaces and everything seems to work. Is this the proper procedure for doing this? Or Is this just a miracle that I got for the good Karma I had saved up? Error in line 1 Near character position 22 This file is the output of the dbaccess command in the shell script, %INFORMIXDIR%\etc\buildsmi.bat. This script is run when IBM Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) is first initialized. It builds the database and tables which support the System Monitoring Interface. If you were directed to see this file, a problem probably occurred while building the database and/or its tables and views. See below for more information regarding any problems. Problems may have occurred if IDS was shutdown after initialization but before the entire database was created. If this was the case, login as 'informix', rerun 'oninit', and wait for the message "'sysmaster' database created successfully" to appear in the IDS message log before shutting down. Once it is created successfully, it should never need to be recreated. Lockmode set. 330: Cannot create or rename the database. 100: ISAM error: duplicate value for a record with unique key. Windows won't let you install multiple versions of Informix, so on Windows you have to uninstall first. Next time tell the installer to not create a default instance to save time and disk space (for the dummy rootdb space that you won't need). There seems to have been one error during the conversion to .TC3, the sysmaster database rebuild failed: 20:31:21 Error building 'sysmaster' database. Not uncommon during an upgrade. Not to worry, you can rebuild it manually. Find the buildsmi.bat script in the %INFORMIXDIR%\etc folder and execute it. The server can be fully online and being used by users when you do this, no worries. Normal user applications do not access sysmaster at all. Art Art S.
