Default SQLTRACE iwht 111.50 (real-world usage please). - 04-23-2010 , 12:57 PM

Is anyone out there using

- IDS 11.50 and
- SQLTRACE with a level of high in the onconfig

to track the last N sql statement for the server?

I was thinking track the last 1,000 sql statments in high mode but has
anyone tried this for real?

What kind of overhead are you seeing for SQLTRACE? Neil?

David,

I am doing some interesting testing with this right now for the Fastest Informix DBA contest we will be doing at the IIUG conference next week. This time, the contest will be based on a Java Open Source Database benchmark ...., so the only way to see what statements currently being run is to turn on SQL trace... We have the potential to do thousands in a minute, so I will have some interesting numbers to talk about next week, and some timings with and without SQLTrace.

Regards - Lester

Folks,

So late last night I ran the same benchmark with 100 users that we used for the Fastest DBA contest on one of my tuned systems... and the results surprised me.

Two runs with SQL Trace off and two runs with SQL Trace on on, and the two with SQL Trace on, high, were both > 10% faster.... why? I don't know and have not had time to look into this. It was late and I had to catch a fligh early this morning so I will do some more testing next week.

Any ideas?

Regards - Lester
