Default Reuter's article - - - IFMX a mainframe company - 09-10-2003 , 03:47 PM

Here's the quote . . . .

International Business Machines Corp. IBM.N unseated Oracle as the
overall leader in total new database software sales with its
acquisition of mainframe database vendor Informix in 2001. The
company, along with Microsoft Corp. MSFT.O , has also been making
gains at the low-end of the modern database market that Oracle has
dominated.

Here's the link . . .

I didn't know that Informix was a mainframe company . . . .8-)

I see quite often some people refer to anything that is not a Wintel box as
a "mainframe", i.e. including all the Unix servers out there...

.... and do Oracle have plans to expand their domination of the low-end
database market? 8-)

I knew Informix marketing was bad, but they REALLY undersold their
mainframe products, didn't they! :-)

Cheers,

I heard the engine was rewritten in cobol for this, but its probably a
viscious rumor spread by the competition.
