Chavan,
All kidding aside, I don't think it matters if the customer in China is anet new customer or an existing one.
The fact that IBM actually approved a PR piece where they mention Informix at all is quite a feat.
And that's probably the largest frustration.
Outside of IBM's core customer base, Informix and DB2 are relatively unknown. More customers know about Oracle's database offering than they do about IBM's.
A Q rating is a quantitative number that identifies how well a brand is recognized by the public. IBM has a good Q rating. Individual divisions, less. Pillars even less.
So when you get down to it... unless you're in IT and work for an IBM customer... DB2, Informix? Not well known.
In terms of relative recognition... More developers know MySQL better than they know Informix or even DB2. (DB2 just runs on IBM's mainframes, right?)
So when you do get some exposure, its a good thing.
But unfortunately IBM isn't able to string enough of these announcements together to create a cohesive and coherent marketing pitch.
IMHO IBM added column oriented schema features to DB2 when it would have been easier to do this in IDS. In fact IBM's whole Hadoop/Big Data analyticspiece is not well thought out from an implementation product management perspective.
But hey! What do I know?
Its not like I've been working with Hadoop for over a year, as well as passing the certification tests. Oh snap! I did do that. My bad. ;-)
