And depending on the requirements, using Hadoop/HBase (BigData/BigTable) has a lower overall TCO and scales better.
:-)

The sad reality is that you have to better quantify your needs.
BigTable isn't good as a Point of Sale relational database.
But taking data from all of your Point of Sale databases and rolling them up in to BigTable for analytics... that makes sense.
(Right Wal*Mart, Sears, Home Depot, etc?)

This is why Informix has to start making itself relevant by better tying into these technologies.

But what do I know? ;-)
