What it means is that you can't just buy a tool and expect it to do wonders..

The other issue is that when you look at the high cost of building a DW using traditional tools plus your BI and hardware costs, you don't generallysee an ROI or the tROI is very long.

Counter this to companies like Twitter and what they are doing and you'll understand why BI is falling on the list. There are other things which will give a better ROI and shorter tROI.

Actually that's two things. Look at what Twitter, Yahoo! and others are doing in the DW space and then look at other technologies which will give you a greater ROI like server virtualization, etc ...

Folks,

Anyone see the latest 2010 Gartner CIO survey? Business Intelligence dropped from the #1 Technology Priority in 2007-2009 to the #5 Priority in 2010.. Does this mean that BI and Data Warehouses are no longer relevant to business? Or, as one blog noted that did follow-up surveys "They (CIO's) stated BI was consistently burning them and burning them bad. They have gone into a wait and see hibernation."

How do you prevent from getting burned? One key to success is to build the Data Warehouse Schema correctly, and that is the topic of my next webcast.
