Default Oracle University Turkey ... follow-up - 12-31-2007 , 04:29 PM

I have become aware of some relevant information I thought I'd share
as, unfortunately, this little drama is playing out here in c.d.i.

Source:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/sof...e-license.html

License Rights
We grant you a nonexclusive, nontransferable limited license to use the
programs for: (a) purposes of developing, prototyping and running your
applications for your own internal data processing operations; (b) you
may also distribute the programs with your applications; (c) you may use
the programs to provide third party demonstrations and training; and d)
you may copy and distribute the programs to your licensees provided that
each such licensee agrees to the terms of this Agreement. You are not
permitted to use the programs for any purpose other than as permitted
under this Agreement. Program documentation is either shipped with the
programs, or documentation may accessed online at
http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation.

Take a good look at item (c) under license rights. It clearly states:

"you may use the programs to provide third party demonstrations and
training;"

It couldn't be any more clear than that.

So the person posting is received some misinformation or, as seems to be
the case, is concealing information relevant to why Oracle threatened
to sue.

So why would Oracle threaten to sue?

Well it appears, and I emphasize "appears" as I don't feel comfortable
that I have all of the facts ... that this person signed a non-compete
with Oracle and has now decided to go into direct competition as an
education provider.

So the threat from Oracle is likely not related to the use of XE but
rather to the violation of the non-compete and thus is about personal
integrity.

No value judgment from me yet ... but clearly there is more to the
story than the OP stated.

Have you tried UPDATE STATISTICS?
I don't even know what it is. At least with respect to an Oracle DB.

Daniel,

Update Statistics is the equivalent of the Oracle DBMS_STATS package.

Then yes I know what it is. And perhaps, also, ANALYZE TABLE.

No ... never tried it with XE. I spend essentially 100% of my time
in the Enterprise Edition.
