Default Looking for help with replicating Informix SE 7 & 4GL application toanother AIX box - 05-13-2010 , 05:37 PM

I'm looking for help with replicating Informix SE 7 & 4GL application
to another Power 5 AIX box.

The box will have AIX installed.
Informix SE available on CD but I prefer to have an image of existing
server to be restored on the 2nd box.

Any suggestion or professional service offering is greatly
appreciated.

Bill

SE is simple software. Stop users from opening the database (one way is to
rename the database directory), make sure nothing is using the files using
/etc/fuser, copy all of the data files and the software from the old machine
to the new one. Hope you are licensed for both machines unless the second
is replacing the first.

Dear Art;
I am using the 2nd server for DR purpose, only when the production
server crashed. Then all I need is to fire this standby server up and
restore backup tape.

I assume there are professionals out there can help replicating the
server for a fee.

Thanks

Bill

Got you. Advanced DataTools certainly can help if you want professional
help. Properly archiving SE so you have a consistent archive to restore is
a bit more involved than doing so for Online or IDS, but it's certainly
doable

my 0.02 Euro..
if you want to spent money then invest it in IDS and HDR
you may have to change the 4gl program a bit but in the end you'll
have a hot standby
which is much more then SE can offer ever.
