Default Kansas City, gateway to ..... - 12-19-2007 , 08:46 PM

Has anyone involved in choosing Kansas City as the venue for the IIUG
Conferene ever tried to travel there from "international"?

I'll need to leave in early March to get there on time, having first
arranged a mortgage to pay for the air-fare ... ;-)

Check the KC airport (http://www.flykci.com/). It is 34.3 miles to the
Overland Park Marriott. At the flykci site, you can search for a
flight. For example, departing Los Angeles, CA on April 25, returning
May 2. It will jump to travelocity where most flights with 1 stop can
be had for under $270.00 (US). Nonstop can be had for around $285.00
(US). Sorry, I know nothing of foreign exchange rates.

Aaaah ce Neil alors... and you're always travelling biz class, so it's gonna
be long but comfortable.

it was chosen because it is in the middle of nowhere, sorry, the US... the
worse thing is indeed that you need to fly from the Kansas City to Overland
Park, it is sooooooo far away.

come on, it's going to be fun...

from Strasbourg (middle of nowhere in Europe), now it is 780 euros, which is
about 2 zillion us$ (x 1.45 = $1131), but it'll get cheaper later...

You could fly to Chicago, rent a car and drive down (it's only about a 9
hr drive per mapquest). Might be about the same driving up from Atlanta.
All sorts of fun options to get to the middle.

Corvette to KC, with my driving, it'll take a few hours (of fun)...

And here in the midwest we have this thing called weather....

BTW jgp you divide by 1.43 That is that the $1.43 USD gets you 1 Euro.

As to driving...

Quote:
From Boston to Chicago, you're between 14-18 hours depending on how fast you drive, number of breaks and weather.
Chicago to Lenexa. You're between 7-10 hours depending on how fast you drive, number of breaks and weather.

AND IF THERE'S Road construction... fugetaboutit.

For those who really want to travel first class... Take a business class flight to Chicago. Then get a group of 10 or so people* and rent a corporate jet.
Depending on the size of the jet and the number of people, it will cost about the same as a first class ticket.

And with those bargin rates you'll save due to the exchange rate (Even Canadians get a break), you can travel in luxury.

13hours and factoring in that I drive fast, if I leave at 9PM Sunday I
get into Overland Park sometime after 10AM Monday morning. It's a
conspiracy! Maybe a bus or train ride overnight - at least I'd get
some sleep that way.

I guess I could come down on Friday and spend the last two days of the

weekend who only eats Passover food? Just kidding Jerry! I'm no
certain I'd survive making the announcement here at home.

There are non-stop flights from New York LaGuardia to Kansas City via
Midwest Airlines (My favorite airline)

I see a flight leaving at 6:30AM Monday the 28th, arriving in KC 8:35 AM.

No problem. :-)

Lucky you.

Because of cost management, I'm expecting to have to hitchhike and pitch
a tent to sleep in. ;-)
