Default KAIO - 06-12-2010 , 11:05 AM

we are on AIX 5.3 (at some future point going to 6.1 i think) with
informix version 10.fc9 (soon to go to version 11 FC6) and are using
AIO.
has anyone run into any issues turning on and using KAIO with either
informix version using 5.3 for aix (or aix 6.1 for that matter)?
years back we had kaio turned on but were using an older version of
the DB and the OS was on HP-UX and ran into some issues when migrating
to the new OS ( i think the log would say the dreaded "KAIO ut of
resources). We are looking at going back to KAIO and looking for
feedback, etc
Thanks. Tom

That message means you haven't configured enough KAIO resources on your
system. Check the product machine notes for details on how to configure it
for the specific platform.

Also look into FC7 when you plan the upgrade. It's a fixpack with no new
features. I hope it to be a very stable release. I have customers running
FC6W* without issues and FC7 should be very similar with just some more
fixes. As with any other version (or product) please test and ask around by
the time you move.

Regards.

Hi Fernando,
did You experience any problems having 11.50FC6 (or in particular W4)
(SLES 10.3).
I'm on this since 3 weeks and we've noticed abnormal memory
consumption for informix for sessions for dbworker thread against
sysadmin database, IBM came back with no clear answer but sugested
going to FC7 - which as You said is just a bunch of bufixes and no
features (no new bugs then).

Did you set BATCHREAD_TABLE? If yes unset it.
Other than that I haven't seen any problems... Whihc doesn't mean there
aren't... Which memory pools do you see growing?
Regards.

Thanks Fernando - I had it enabled since we upgraded to 11.50 and as
agreed with support we tweak'ed this parameter. I just disabled it and
bounced IDS, I'll let you know in few days did that help.

cheers

I should have said this earlier... The parameter can be modified online
although it does not affect the sessions already started.

Yes. Although there were reports about not being able to access it. In one
of the customers we already upgraded the development environments.

I did find it in the end, with Keith Simmons' help. He wrote:

I've just looked at my PPA available downloads and both Growth and Ultimate
are there under 'Associated products included at no additional charge'
within the 'IBM Informix Dynamic Server Enterprise Edition' download
expansion. ... [Look] under your 'free product' expansion ...

.... and he was right!

I would never have thought to look there in a million years, so thanks to
Keith.
