Default Informix on NT? - 08-25-2003 , 03:20 PM

I have a client who's using an MRP system from ROI System, and he said
it's Informix database and it's on NT. I have never heard of Informix
on NT, can Informix be on NT platform? If so, which version of
Informix and is it easy to export the db to another DBMS, say, MS SQL
Server 2000? And what would that take?

Thanks.

Art, thanks for the response. However, the statment
"You can export from Informix to flat files
and load the data into SQL Server if needed" is troublesome, well, how
does one maintain data structure, entity relations etc. system
schemas? Someone has suggested using MS DTS. Maybe that's a viable
option. Have you tried that approach? Thanks.

Yes IDS on WinXX is available it is the only OS that IDS runs on which is
NOT a UNIX variant. IDS 7/8/9 are all available in their latest
incarnations on that platform. You can export from Informix to flat files
and load the data into SQL Server if needed, also IDS 9.xx can define
external tables which can reside in other servers, then there's Informix
Enterprise Gateway....

Sorry, I misread yours. Thought you just wanted a way to get data in to
an MS SQL Server database or interoperate the two. Did not realize you
were seeking to port the entire database from IDS to SQL Server.
Unfortunately I avoid using MS products as much as I can get away with,
so I cannot help much more. I will tell you that you can use Visio to
reverse engineer the IDS schema and then should be able to import it into
SQL Server.

I have used DTS to port. But that was from Sybase to MS Sql Server. Its
pretty smart and efficient though. You should not have any problems.
