Default Informix Install without CD - 05-17-2004 , 05:07 PM

My department has misplaced the CD's for our Informix (9.21 UC5 on Solaris).
Is it possible to make a tar file of an existing install and copy it to the
new machine in the same directory strucutre. Will that work? Any other
creative ways to install that you guys might know of ?

If not, any idea if it is easy to order 9.21 UC5 from IBM. I dont know how I
got into this mess.

TIA,
Jack

For years, this was how we installed SE on Linux. Of course, 9.21 is
not SE, so YMMV.

Yes, it will work. You may have to run the installserver script etc again,
but provided you have the Install Key and Code that should be easy.

Can you get replacement media from IBM? I imagine so: IBM's streamlined
administrative procedures are extermely well geared up for dealing with just
such an out-of-the-ordinary request.

It will work but you must have user informix and group informix with same UID
and GID as they are on existing server. And don't forget links from
/usr/lib/some_file.so to $INFORMIXDIR/lib/some_file.so.
