Default Informix Client Drivers on x64 Operating Systems - 01-04-2012 , 05:39 AM

Hi all, we have running in a lot of trouble with 64 bits OS servers
and desktops that are clients of IDS11.5x

This servers have several applications (.Net apps) that are compiled
as 32 bits, also we have 64 bits windows 7 desktops that use ODBC
and .Net provider in 32 and 64 bits apps.

The big questions is: in a 64 bits OS, wich version(s) of 'IBM Data
Server Driver Package' should i install to make work 32 and 64 bits
apps using ODBC and .Net providers ?

If i have to install more than once package, there is a order ? or
guide on how to do it ?

Currently in 64 bit OS we are installing both:

clientsdk.3.50.TC4DE.WIN for 32 bits OS
clientsdk.3.50.FC7.WIN for 64 bits OS

But we have some issues i think because of the use of PATH environment
variables inside dll drivers, just a guess.

Thanks!
Enrique

The communications protocol with the engine are not different between the
32bit and 64 bit versions of the driver. There's no driver on the engine
side anyway, so you just use whichever version on the client machines that
matches the applications it has to support.

If you are using the CSDK-ODBC driver, you should be able to install both
the 64-bit and 32-bit CSDK on the same machine and have 32-bit and 64-bit
ODBC applications running on the same machine.
What problem are you facing? Could you provide the exact error
information/screenshot so that we could try to help on the same.

If you are having existing legacy applications you could continue to use
the SQLI .NET (CSDK.NET) driver or write .NET applications the MS
..NET-ODBC bridge. However, this driver is not updated on latest
capabilities such as VSAI & EDM. This article should give you some
insight:

..NET-ODBC bridge applications:
