Default ids11.70 stopping with no error messages - 10-03-2011 , 08:27 PM

This is on Windows Server 2008 32 bit.
I upgraded this server last Saturday from 11.70TC1IE to 11.70TC3IE .
It seemed like all our problems were solved until this afternoon when the service stopped.
There were no messages in the online log (IDS1170.log) or the Windows logs to indicate what was wrong.
I restarted IDS several times but it would not keep running.
I finally stopped a service that runs reports and waited for awhile for 15 minutes or so and then I let the reports run.
Then Informix stayed up the rest of the day.
This could happen tomorrow or anytime and I do not know what caused it.
I cannot recall 7.3 or 9.4 ever stopping without some indication of what was wrong.
There is ol_service.log that has useless info like this:
14:31:49 Service was shut-down externally.
14:35:53 Service was shut-down externally.
14:39:03 Service was shut-down externally.
14:46:24 Service was shut-down externally.
14:49:36 Service was shut-down externally.
14:53:18 Service was shut-down externally.

I think that one of these was because some program ran a stored procedure that still had a “set debug file” in it.
There is a bug that kills the service if you do that. I thought I got them all but I missed one.
I am clueless on the rest of the shutdowns .

Is there a “VERBOSE” switch I am missing that tells me what is broken when the service stops?

Bill. I've resisted the cheap shot for so long. But, looking at the myriad
questions you raise, do you ever think to yourself that Informix on Windows
just doesn't cut it? And determine to change one or the other. Preferably
the latter btw?

"Doesn't cut it" is not a phrase that comes to mine. Certainly Windows is an inferior OS when it comes to SMP database operations, but I have very few complaints with Informix on Windows. Granted, I can get about 4x performance out of Centos on the same hardware. Granted also that Windows is not the main focus of Informix efforts, still IDS does very well on it.

cheers

There are only so many whales in the ocean
There are many more tuna than whales
If you only hunt whales then sooner or later you will go hungry.

In any case, we have been running Informix very happily since 7.3.
We were on Solaris first (with a whale) and then on Windows (with the tunas) starting 12 years ago.
The current IDS release seems to be more of a problem than the older ones.
