Default IDS Edition and snfile - 11-11-2010 , 10:48 AM

We had installed by our software provider Informix IDS 11.50.FC6WE.

I am trying to figure out what edition we have installed and also to
find out where the license is located.

I've read that before in $INFORMIXDIR/etc there was a .snfile but I
cannot find anything there

Please help!

Thank you very much,

Genti

I would say that the WE represents Work Group Edition. Just a guess on my part.

We don't have access there as the software provider did all of this work but
we wan't to double check they did things the right way.

What about the .snfile? Is there an equivalent to that anymore or not?

Yes WE=Workgroup Edition, really.
If you have access to the Passport Advantage site, you can obtain details
about your Entitlements
(there´s a link for it, after you login on PPA site).

Thank you everyone. This group is as always very helpful.

Way more helpful than IBM and their documentation - which to me is
very confusing!

The onstat utility shows the IDS version. Use onstat - from the
command line.
The .snfile is used by historical tools.

Hello Gentian,

Login as informix and then run "cat $INFORMIXDIR/etc/.snfile". In the
old days, we installed each piece manually and in the order of TEN
(Tools, Engine, Network). Nowadays I'd check with IBM Informix
Support to make sure. Anyway, if your .snfile is gone, you will not
know the order but you can check the versions by running these
commands:

c4gl -V
i4gl -V
onstat -V
check_version csdk # or "ifx_getversion clientsdk"
ifx_getversion esql

When I run these commands I get the versions 7.50.FC1X3, 7.50.FC1X3,
11.50.FC4, 3.50.FC4 and 3.50.FC4. These are all valid. But, in your
case, call IBM Informix Support to make sure.

To find the licenses, run "cd $INFORMIXDIR; ls -l | grep license".
You will see several license subdirectories.

-LS
