Default Is IDS 9.40.FC7 supported on AIX 6.1 - 07-22-2010 , 05:53 PM

We are running IDS 9.40.FC7 on AIX 5.2 and want to upgrade the O/S to
AIX 6.1. My question is IDS 9.40.FC7 supported on AIX 6.1.
I searched IBM sites and the System Requirements pages only list
information for IDS 10 and 11.
Any info. is highly appreciated.

Informix Dynamic Server version 9.40 went out of support in September 2009,
so officially it is no longer supported on ANY platform. You should upgrade
to 11.50 (v10.00 will go out of support in September 2010) the current
maintenance release is 11.50.FC6 or FC7.

What is the point of changing the OS?
You don't have support for the database, so what is the goal? Are you
planing to upgrade both and want to do the OS first?
I had a situation similar to that, and the customer decided to upgrade the
database first and then the OS (they were on 5.3)

When the latest 9.40 fixpack was launched there was no AIX 6.1, so you won't
find any document saying it's supported.

Thanks for the replies and I am aware of the lack of support for
9.40.
Yes, the goal is to move to 11.10 on AIX 6.1 on a different box. I am
researching the best way to move 7 instances with around 25 GB per
instance on average. Each instance has anywhere from 1 to 6 databases
(total 30) of varying sizes.
I was hoping to install 9.40.FC7 on the new box with AIX 6.1 and use
the ontape backups from my existing to restore and do an in-place
upgrade to 11.10.
Doing an in-place upgrade on the existing system is not an option.
Also, moving to 11.50 is not an option because of third-party software
restrictions.
At this time, I am thinking export/import is the only option. Any
ideas are welcome and appreciated.

A few more comments.
25GB is not that much for today's standard. It really depends on the
possibility of having downtime. For that data ammount, I would say that
remote "INSERT INTO ... SELECT FROM" would work. It's harder to run, but
will leave you with a clean system. And you can do it individually for each
database (assuming your applications don't cross databases).

As for 11.10, it's a shot in the foot. That version has a lot less
functionality than 11.50. And for a vendor, it should not be difficult to
run the certification tests against 11.50. I'd bet they won't have any
serious problems. You'll get into a version that will not see enhanced
functionality... Try pressing the vendor...

As for running 9.40 on AIX 6.1, it's possibly that it works... the problem
is that nobody will assure this.

Regards.
