Please, no comments that this is out-of-the-ark-ware. We know, we don't have a choice. Am attempting to do a level 0 restore from the live box for test purposes using 'ontape -r'. I issue the rewind command to /dev/rmt/0n, then the 'ontape -r' command. The message 'Please mount tape on...' appears, I press enter. A little bit of work happens, the dbspaces get listed, followed by 'Archive Information': Archive Information Informix Dynamic Server Copyright(C) 1986-1998 Informix Software, Inc. Initialization Time 09/16/2003 10:08:33 System Page Size 2048 Version 6 Archive CheckPoint Time 09/14/2007 16:10:36 Bus Error And it stops, as you can see with Bus Error. Does anyone have an idea what that means, please? A problem with the tape? (yes please - we have plenty more from the live box) A hardware problem? (OMG) All clues gratefully received. |

Should have mentioned that we have succesfully done a level 0 restore on the test box before, both are running Solaris 8 on SPARC architecture, both are IDS 7.31.FD9, and whilst we recently 'upgraded' (!!!) to that version from an earlier 32-bit 7.31 version the level 0 tape should be from after that upgrade took place |

Have you *definitiely* successfully restored from a no-rewind device at all? |
|
Also, does it still fail if you script the restore, eg: ontape -r << ! ^M y n n ! |
