Default HPL error starting ipload - 12-29-2005 , 12:32 PM

IDS 1.FC4
HP-UX 11.11

When I try to start ipload, I get the following error.

Bus error. coredump.

ipload works on my other servers (IDS 9.21) and I am not sure what the difference is.
I am moving to the new server and wanted to try HPL, without having to do all the
command line stuff.

Any help would be appreciated.

and.... Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays / whatever....

Thanks.

Are you using shared memory connections or network connections for
ipload?

I'm pretty sure it is network, I dont have any shared memory connections set up in my sqlhosts file. I just typed ipload from the command line.

I have read about the variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH, but I can't find anything that says what to set the value to. I have tried setting it to the path where the ipldd10a.sl file is, but that didnt seem to make a difference. Unfortunately, I am not a very good sysadmin and everyone else is on vacation here.

Thanks.

Laurie

And there are no issues with your XTerm?

- Try

ldd $INFORMIXDIR/bin/ipload

and it should tell you if any shared libraries are not being found.

- Try running something like xclock in your session to make sure that
your X display is set correctly.

- Check $INFORMIXDIR/etc/$PLCONFIG or if $PLCONFIG is not set check
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/plconfig.std.
What is HPL_DYNAMIC_LIB_PATH is set? Does it exist?

Otherwise you might have to raise a support call.

Solaris has truss to trace the system calls a process makes.
Linux has strace to trace the system calls a process makes.
Even AIX now has truss now
and HP-UX has....nothing.

There is tusc but it was written outside of HP, does not come with the
OS and
is not supported by HP. Perhaps you should get HP to add something to
their OS
- mind you they are dropping HPUX for Linux...LOL.

Sorry mate but unless the above helps it is raise a support call with
IBM time.

Am I correctly assuming 10.00.FC4 here?

It might be worth mentioning than ipload always has been a UC, even if the server was an FC before
10.00 and latest 9.40, i.e. ipload always was 32bit and now is 64bit with FC server versions.

We have seen problems like this on other platforms, usually with very first graphic appearing on
your X server. The problems always turned out to be X server, so 'client' (machine) related (I
think it was some not-so-current Linux then). And, yes, it was 64bit specific.

Do you see your problem during initial startup as well? What is your client machine and X
environment? Have you tried different client machines/X environments?

It is also worth mentioning that it shouldn't make a difference whether you use an FC or UC ipload
binary ... and whether you have the most current (here: 10.00.FC4) ipload, i.e. an older ipload
binary is always worth a try.

HTH,
Andreas
