Default Free Informix download for learning? - 06-30-2007 , 05:47 AM

Hi there,

We use Informix at work and I'd like to install a version of it on my
Ubuntu box at home so I can practise using it. Is there a free single-
machine version of Informix that can be downloaded from IBM?

I suppose I could always do bookwork at home and then practise at
work, but it'd be helpful to have at home to:
- learn how to administrate Informix (create users and dbs)
- experiment with different queries, etc

Many thanks

Andrew

(Free) registration is required for either.

Thanks Neil.

I've downloaded Informix 9.4 and run the installserver program but I
get the following error:

etc/brand: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-
libc6.2-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory

On checking Synaptic package manager I have the following libstdc++
packages:
- libstdc++6 (4.1.1-13ubuntu5)
- libstdc++6.4.1.dev (4.1.1-13ubuntu5)

How do I go about installing libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3?

Many thanks

Andrew

My previous post wasn't that clear. I have the two libstdc++ packages
installed:
- libstdc++6 (4.1.1-13ubuntu5)
- libstdc++6.4.1.dev (4.1.1-13ubuntu5)

Oh, it's on the tip of my tongue... I don't recall, it has something to do
with setting up a link from what it is expecting to what you have. Sorry
that's useless. But it is(was) a common occurence that a google of
comp.databases.informix should resolve. www.iiug.org also has some archives
with a search.

You might also try the Informix Linux subgroup. That is available via the
iug site again - mailing lists. Those archives should be searchable as
well.

Just out of curiosity, why 9.4? Version 10 is out there as well.

Solved the problem, using the technique used on this webpage:

http://www.granneman.com/techinfo/li...noffice642.htm

Just symlinked my closest matching libstdc++ file to the one the
installation program wanted.

So:

cd /usr/lib
sudo ln -s libstdc++.so.6.0.8 libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3

Hopefully the gap in version numbers (6.0.8 to 6.2.2) won't break
anything but it's working at the moment
