This involves 11.70TC3IE on Windows Server 2008 32 bit.
I have discovered that “set debug file to blah� kills IDS or it may be the “trace� statement that actually does it.
I think setting the file name does not always kill the service, but writing to the file sure does.
The trace messages actually get written before the service dies.
Is there a patch for this behavior?

Call IBM and open a support case. If there is a patch they will know. If
there isn't one yet, your report will spark the fix.
