It will sort-of work. Here are the caviats as I see them:
- You will also have to restore the root dbspace if the server is down or
you are doing this to port a database to another machine.
- You will have to rollforward all logical logs to bring the dbspace
up-to-date with the rest of the server. You can't successfully restore a
single dbspace to an earlier point than the rest of the server.
So, depending on what you want dbspace level restores to do for you
determines whether restricting a dbspace to hold a single database it will
work for you.
