Default about DRAUTO - 10-23-2011 , 06:40 PM

ids: 11.5
Is anyone set DRAUTO 1 or 2 and had any trouble ?
It Seems that DRAUTO was not availabe among some ids old version and
back to alive in later version.
What happen with DRAUTO?
New ids version solved the problem and give it new life?

DRAUTO was removed in 7.31 because it caused more trouble that it
prevented. If you have one of the auto role change modes set in DRAUTO and
your primary and secondary servers lost communications with each other, even
briefly, but were both still online, you could end up with two primary
servers.

Anyway, it was brought back at some point (maybe in 9.40 or 10.00 don't
remember) because some sites with absolutely reliable communications between
servers wanted the functionality back.

Today, with 11.xx, I would use the Connection Manager (with multiple CM
instances running) to manage server failover, it is a more robust protocol
than DRAUTO and isn't fooled as easily by intermittent communications.

Art ,
For me, DRAUTO seem easier than connection manger.
If I control not to allow all the clients to enter the secondary
server that they don't
even know the ip address or existence of secondary.
All the jobs still running on the primary server even if we got two
primary server owing to network failure.
I guess the worst result is rebuild the HDR.
Am I right ?

Sorry, I was at the IBM IOD conference last week and crazy busy. Yes, the
worst case scenario is that you would have to rebuild the secondary from an
archive if it becomes a second primary inadvertently.
