Default Sybase to DB2 - 04-07-2005 , 02:55 PM

Can someone point out what are the good things that IBM DB2 V8.2 brings
in as compared to Sybase 12.5?

We are debating why we need to move out of Sybase and what we will gain
if we move to IBM DB2.

How much longer do you think it will be before Sybase is bought by CA and
they suck the blood out of you for maintenance and support?

Can you list out some of the major features in Sybase 12.5? I haven't
looked at Sybase in ages. That way, perhaps someone could compare the
two. Also, what is the database going to be used for? What types of
applications? Are you having any challenges with Sybase right now? Are
you looking for anything in particular in a database? What do you use
for an IDE or app dev environment? How large are your databases?

DB2 is very good at recovery and stability, till now I am yet to
experience a database corruption in DB2. In my experience on OLTP and
DSS databases converted from Sybase to DB2, DB2 is generally faster.
DB2 lacks in functionality for auditing and security, which Sybase is
pretty good at. I think in scalability, performance, stability
(database & company), support and licensing fees DB2 scores high, where
as Sybase is strong in replication, functionality, security and
auditing.
