Default sample DB2 Database with DBF in vmware - how?? - 11-28-2011 , 05:43 AM

Hi
I placed the 'how' in the subject just to not mislead users as to
contain info on how to do that. I am curious as to make a cluster
using 2-3 vmware images of some flavor of linux, say Ubuntu or
openSUSe, and install db2 with dbf - the advanced server edition
trial, and try setting up a database, so I learn thel little nuts and
bolts of managing/creating dpf databases.

I would require links as to articles/books that I can read to
construct a cluster using vmware image or even 2 pcs in same network.
I can also use help on setting up db2 in cluster machines to set up a
simple dpf database. If you think this is worthless, and that logical
partition inside a single server would also help in learning, please
link to an article/redbook that could get me started.

Thanks in advance
Arun

It is not a problem learn DPF using logical partitions on a
single [virtual] machine only, without having to resort to using
multiple [virtual] machines. The concepts are completely the
same, with only minor differences in /etc/services and
db2nodes.cfg.

FYI, DPF is not available as a part of DB2 ESE (or AESE). IBM
changed the packaging a couple of years back to make it a part of
InfoSphere Warehouse (ISW)

FYI, IBM offers a trial of ISW, and it is available as a VMware
Virtual Machine that you can download - everything will already
be configured (including all the ISW console) and ready for you
to use (provided your host machine has enough RAM to support the
VM). You can get it from: http://ibm.co/vTcGnw
