Default db2 recovery expert - 07-20-2011 , 09:48 AM

Anybody using IBM recovery experts tool. Please can you share your
experience?

I personally don't see any reason to use this tool with db2 version
9+.

Version 9+ offers flexibility to restore at tablespaces level. Storage
improvements delivered as a part of db2 version 9+ also makes it
easier to implement one table per tablespace; in other words table
level recovery with db2 version 9+ is possible and much easier now.

As per the IBM recovery experts document, "row level" recovery is
possible. perhaps that could be the only reason to use this tool?

Thanks
P.

The tool has the capability to recover dropped objects without having to
restore the entire table or tablespace (many customers still have
multiple tables per tablespace). Log analysis is also possible and I
believe undo SQL can be reconstructed to remove unwanted updates/changes
and associated objects.

I agree with Larry. Recovery Expert offers finer granularity of
recoveries including dropped table and table space recovery.

The Log Analysis tool allows reporting who did change the data as well
as generating REDO SQL or UNDO SQL. If something does go wrong, Log
Analysis can assist in finding the root cause. The REDO/UNDO SQL
can be generated on a single table or on some set of tables.

There is a trial version of Recovery Expert available if you want to
check it out.
