SQLBase 8.1 with PTF1 died silently -

Hello, everyone.
We encountered a fatal problem in SQLBase 8.1 in Windows 2000 Server
SP 4 where the SQLBase engine just died without registering any log in
the fail.sql. It happened quite often. On one occasion, the SQLBase
engine died twice in 15 minutes. To get the database engine running
again, we would just start it manually from Windows services applet.
After reading the sb810PTF1Fixes document, we think this is similar to
the Defect # 77897 (http://centurasoft.com/Support/Files...PTF1Fixes.htm).
We also think a large query from remote ODBC connections could kill
the database engine as well. So we applied the patch. However, that
patch did not do any good. The fatal problem still happens randomly on
a weekly basis.
The environment:
SQLBase 8.1 with PTF1 applied runs on Windows 2000 Server SP4.
The database server has 14 active databases.
Remote database connections made to the SQLBase via ODBC using Centura
SQLBase 3.6 32-bit driver (Version 3.60.00.00 C2GUP15.DLL 11/21/2000).
Our software needs to use this driver version.). The remote
connections are spread out on a WAN.
What can we do to find out why the SQLBase engine just died on its own
besides looking at the offending query?
Thanks
