I have a couple layouts that include a number field which displays an auto entered serial number. It works just fine until I press "PREVIEW" to see how it will look when printed....there are no numbers displayed in the field. As soon as I exit PREVIEW they reappear. What dumb newbie thing am I missing here? Thanks so much Tom |

aerovons has brought this to us : I have a couple layouts that include a number field which displays an auto entered serial number. What dumb newbie thing am I missing here? Thanks so much Tom First thought-- Are these fields on the page? Go to Layout and look for a vertical dotted line showing the page boundery or-- In Layout, View *Click on Page Margins and you will see what is outside the page. If thats not it we might need some more details but I can't think which. -- John G |

I've enlarged the font, and widened the field to make sure nothing simple was screwing it up. Amazing. As soon as I enter Preview the numbers vanish, as soon as I exit, they reappear. Stumped. Tom |

The "Project" layout has the field (number, serial, auto entered). When going to PREVIEW, the serial number disappears. When choosing "Save/Send Records As" and choosing PDF, the resulting PDF DOES show the serial number. Go to second layout (an invoice layout). This layout has the SAME field, in fact it was copied and pasted from the PROJECT layout. Again, nothing in Preview. But this time, NOTHING upon printing the PDF either. |

Try temporarily stretching the field wider or changing the font it uses - maybe there's a font glitch causing problems. This can be espcially true if you're viewing the layout at any zoom level other than 100% since font spacing doesn't scale very well and "what you see may not be what you get". Try putting a new version of the field on the layout(s) from scratch (not copy-pasting the existing one). Also try putting the field on another layout. Try copy-pasting a field that does work and changing it to be the problem field. Check that there is nothing layered above the field (you may also need to ungroup the item). For example, there may be a box drawn around the fieldas a border which is showing up as set to print, but the field below may be set to non-print - when you click you may be selecting the box rather than the field.
