Default Web Publishing problem. Please help a newbie! thank you! - 04-18-2007 , 09:37 AM

Hi

I want to publish my database on the web. When I open the file on the
server I get:

"FileMaker cannot share files over the web because Instant Web
Publishing could not be started."

Then I click OK, login to the file and get:

"FileMaker cannt share files because another user is already sharing
files using FileMaker Pro on this computer."

When I get into the file itself I click "edit", "sharing" and "instant
web publishing". When I click "On" the system hangs for about one
minute, before giving me the error:

"FileMaker cannot share files over the web because Instant Web
Publishing could not be started."

The thing is, I think that IWP is already running on the server, but
with some old databses we don't use any more. Can this be causing the
problem?

I am using and fp7 file with filemaker advanced 8 on Windows Server
2003. I am currently sharing the files using windows sharing, but I
have also tried un-sharing the files using windows sharing and the
problem remains.

If you could offer any help at all I would be really grateful.

Many thanks

Paul

Make sure your server is not running IIS. If IIS is running on it, change
the port for IWP to be something else but port 80 and other ports being used
by your server. (try ports above 5000, such as 5080 for example).

Paul, never ever open a FileMaker file from a windows share. Remember
what happened to MS Access :-)

Seriously, you are trying to configure IWP in a wrong way. From your
explanation above, I understand that you are trying to enable IWP from
a local copy of FileMaker Pro that opens a file on a window share.
This is definitely the wrong way to go.

What you should do, is place the files you want to publish in the FMSA
databases folder, and configure the FMSA Web Publishing Engine
appropriately from the admin console. You open the admin console in
your browser pointing to http://<IP-address Win2003 Server>/fmi/config

The FMSA configuration steps are described in detail in de FMSA Web
Install Guide that you find on the CD.

HTH

Jeroen
