Default <unrelated table> - 11-09-2005 , 07:39 AM

Hi,

I am making a database in a single file with multiple tables. I have
the relationship graph all laid out with all the relationships filled
in. However when I make a layout to allow me to type in data the layout
has <unrelated table> written in all the fields and wont let me enter
data. Do you know what this is about? I'm not sure if it's connected
but when I try to import tab delimited data the drop down menu has all
the tables greyed out so i can't import into them. I can however import
into a new table that I make using the menu item in the import window.

Thanks for your help.

Jennifer

Also...

When I click on the layout it says 'This action cannot be performed
because the required table is missing.' However it's definately there
because I can see it in the define database window and in the
relationships window.

Thanks,

Jen

You have probably tried all of these suggestions but I make them
anyway.

Go into Layout Mode, Layouts>Layout Setup and verify that the Show
records from drop-down points to one of your Table Occurrences.

If that is OK then in the Layout click one of the fields giving
<unrelated table> and verify that the field is based on the Table
Occurrence listed in layout Setup or at least on a TO in the related
table part of the list.

When you try to import data is there a Current Table listed at the top
of the list? The others are all greyed out automatically as you can
only import data into the Current Table - that is the table pointed at
by the current active layout.

What this sounds like is a layout set up for a table which was
subsequently deleted. and another table with the same name created
later.

Wow! That first thing fixed it. :-) Thanks ever so much. :-)

Is this the right place to come to ask questions like this? I'm quite
new to filemaker.

Absolutely the right place. We all began somewhere and the majority,
including myself, are still in the foothills.

Fantastic. :-) I'll be visiting regulary in that case. I've managed to
get whole structure and user interface setup for my database now. That
tip you gave me solved millions of very confusing problems. :-)

Thanks,

Jen
