Default Trouble with Value lists, relationships and autoenter - 12-06-2006 , 05:05 PM

I haw 2 tables. The first table has a couple regular fields and one
global field that is a member of a value list that contain al records
from one field in this table. This global field should be something like
a preferences for one field in table 2. When a record is created in
table 2, it should lookup this global field and auto-enter the data.
Both, the global field in table 2 and the field in table 1 that is
defined as auto-enter are members of the same value list.

Auto-enter, yes this works well. If in the global field is "5", on a
record creation in table 2, data "5" is auto-entered in the field. But,
if I wish to change the data, it is not possible.

I tried with lookup and with auto-enter calculated value. But no
success.

Is this a normal FileMaker behavior? If yes, how to solve this
problem?

Now I am mad!!!

***Punching with the head on the wall. Grrrr!'&%$!#****

I was too tired yesterday and stuck on a basic thing. I did not see the
tree in the wood. The miracle check box: "Do not replace existing value
of field (if any)". Grrrrrrr

Heheh! No need to be mad. It's probably a lesson you will never ever forget!
Similar issues have happened to me as I have been learning FMP. It all
contributes to the invaluable experience you adquire over time.
I always say: "When trying to solve a problem, start thinking simple looking
for the obvious causes, then get deeper as needed".

I'm glad your problem is solved.
