Does anyone have any experience in building a solution which has a longer
period time-line.
I'm not talking about a day to day, but rather a historical timeline. Events
may take from one day up to many years.
Preferably I want to show data graphically like a gant graph, where parallel
time slots overlap.
Any hints, example files, etc. are welcome

Ursus

Seedcode has marvelous calendar products, which have gantt-like screens
to display timeslots.

http://www.seedcode.com/

Their single-user calendar is free and unlocked, I believe. Take a look.

Thanks Lynn, I already had a look at the product. I really think he did an
excelent job. But to modify this to my needs would require almost the same
amount of work as a new built would take. My main challenge is that all
these charts are based on 'office use'. Short time projects that will be
resolved within days. Since I'm trying to track events in history i'm
talking about many years for some projects to complete (the building of a
cathedral). With the current solution the scale gets way of the screen and I
would loose any coherent view. It would need a major overhaul to fit to my
needs.

Keep well, Ursus

check out the Reactor plug-in: http://fusionplugins.com/reactor/

I haven't used it, but it's one of the few systems I know of to implement gnatt charts.
