Default Things I'd like to see that didn't happen - 07-12-2007 , 08:02 AM

I think that they have added some interesting capabilities but overall
I'm disappointed. I do like the ability to organize and search your
scripts. I also like the idea of the new layout features being able
to re-size objects in the window. But on the SQL side of the house I
would have liked to see the ability to write SQL statements for your
FM tables. I also would have liked to see the ability to create views/
queries like you can in MS Access, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server etc...

I like the idea of being able to append reports together via PDF, but
wish they would provide native support for graphs and charts. I would
also like to have merge fields that automatically expand when in
preview mode so that data doesn't get cut off when you print a
report. For multi-line text fields I'd like the ability to turn on
and off a text ruler within the text filed itself.

One other thing that I'd like is when using the developer tools you
can create executables for either Windows or Mac regardless of what
platform you are working out of. In other words if I'm creating a
solution on my Mac I don't want to have to take a copy of it to a
Windows box running FMPA just to kick out an exe. I should be able to
do this from my Mac, and vis versa if my development platform is
Windows.

Technically this should be possible ... BUT by forcing you to use the
"other" operating system it does give you no excuse for not checking
that the database looks and works as it should on that "other"
operating system. Without that, many people would simply create the
Windows version from their Mac (or vice versa) without checking it, and
the result can easily be an ugly mess due to things like font
differences, and unfortunately that would be a bad image for FileMaker
depsite not being their fault.
