Default Templates - 11-15-2005 , 02:49 AM

A while ago I asked:

"This may not be an appropriate place to ask my question and if so, my
apologies now.

Here goes, I am interested in creating a simple rental property management
database for my own use, but, being lazy, before I do, I wonder if anyone
has already done such a thing.

I want to be able to record such things as commencement of tenancy, rental
payments, gas safety certificates due, and other such mundane things.

Ideas would be welcome."

Well, I looked (as was suggested) at various sites with templates but I
didn't find a thing. Anyone got more suggestions please??

Jim

Jim,

Your question is really the starting point of what could be a fairly
involved and complicated relational database system. The prices for these
kind of packages run anywhere from $200 to $2000 and up.

A FileMaker 5-based Rentals template listed at the FileMaker site is $1995.

Another one lists for $2000:

There are in fact many parallels between some of the free templates
available and what would be needed to do the rental system yourself... but
this would involve picking apart the files, studying what was done, and
generalizing to your situation.

The group is a great resource for solving specific questions, in the form
of, "I have my tenant table set up such-and-such a way and I want to create
a report which shows x, y, and z..." But I think that is probably as general
as you could make it.

I am sure other who have built a rental management solution of their own, or
know of some other packages may be able to contribute those links, too.

But, I think that if your goal is to have a custom system that you more or
less built on your own and could maintain and enhance on your own, then the
best thing would be to hire someone who will be there to walk you through
the whole process, knowing ahead of time it will be a lot of work for both
of you.

I am amazed by the quality of that show. Bravo.
