Thanks again for very good and detailed advice. It is true that they
have to replace backup tapes on a daily basis.

Another way of 'backing up' is exporting individual tables to 'flat'
..fp7 files. That ensures you have the raw data at all times.

So I'm probably going for at combination of the two.
