Default sorting - 11-13-2009 , 06:12 AM

Imported data base from appleworks via text file. First field is date
field. In Appleworks an example is 9/5/09. When I try to sort
FileMaker only apparently uses only the digit to the left of the slash
which gives unsatisfactory results. How can I fix this. This
unsatisfactory result is saved. What can I do to fix this?
Apparently FM needs format as 09/05/09.

Hi, Frank -

Make sure the field type is set to "date" in the File > Manage >
Database dialog. Then FileMaker will read the data is a date and sort
accordingly.

Adding to this,

If there already is a date this has to be in your local date-format. So if
your country doesn't use / as separator sorting will still not go right. If
which case you have to write a calcualtion which parses out old (wrong)
dates into correct dates.
