Hello,

I've Filemaker Server Advanced 7.0 to serve Filemaker Pro files over the
internet.

Now, I've Filemaker Pro Advanced (NOT SERVER!) en created some files in it.
I tried to serve these file with Filemaker Pro Server Advanced 7.0 and open
them over the internet with FMP 8.5. And guess what... it works. Even
typical Filemaker 8 things like TABS, drop down calenders and tooltips seem
to work just fine.
Does someone know if there is any reason why I should update tot Filemaker
Server Advanced 8.0, or can I just continue.

There *are* some 8/8.5 features not supported by server 7. It may lead
to odd difficult to find bugs. FM8/8.5 features that are handled by
the client, eg UI stuff like tabs or drop down calenders will work...
certain calculations functions, complex searches and other things that
are handled server side won't.

FM 8 is advertised as faster. I don't have any hard benchmarks for
that, but I suspect its true. FM7 Server was a 1st generation product
(from a certain perspective).

Lastly, as I've written before, for hosting FM files to FM clients you
don't need "filemaker server advanced", you just need "filemaker
server". Unless you are using the 'advanced' features of 'server
advanced' save your money. You can always buy the 'advanced' later as
an upgrade if you actually need it.
