Default Server 8 file closed - 10-13-2005 , 04:51 PM

I have recently upgraded from Server 7 to Server 8 on W@K Server.
All seems to be fine except 1 of my hosted databases won't open. Trying
to force it to open changes the status to checking and then back to
closed. I have set max DB's to host well in excess of the number I am
hosing but cannot find why this file (which opened fine in V7) should
decide not to open.
Any ideas really appreciated.

TIA

Did you try running a "recover" on the file?

Or a "save a copy as" and open the copy?

I've not seen this problem here (I run server under OSX), but it sounds
like file corruption to me...

Is the file set to be shared/multiuser? The server won't automatically
share single user files. (I think there's an option to force it to host
files set to single user -- at least there used to be in 5/6. Not sure
offhand if it still exists or where it is in 7/8.

Thanks for the advice guys. I did run recovery on the file and it
opened fine. Seems strange there was no problem with V7.
Thanks Again

I hope you did the 'recovery' the right way : ie take an empty clone of
the file and reimport the data 'recovered'. Never use directly the
recovered file as such.

A lot of folks around here will say that isn't the right way either.

They will say the only right way to do a recover is to export all the
data from the recovered file as text, then re-import it into a
non-recovered backup of the file from before it went south.

Me, I have several recovered files from the old days that haven't bit
me yet...I'm hoping that in transferring to v8 from v5 they will be
baptized and free from sin.
