selection turns window black (???)

When I click on the browse window, the whole window is selected and turns
black for a second until I release left button. It does not do this if I
click on a field.

Can anyone help a newbie?

Whomever designed it for you made the entire background into a button.
I think this is silly practice, but it was probably done as a way to
commit records in a more controlled environment.
