Default Selecting records for report - newbie question - 11-10-2005 , 08:22 AM

I suspect this is a silly question - I hope not!

I have a report layout (in FM8/PC), on which I list occurrences of
Field A for each occurrence of Field B, so each page looks like:

Field B (sub-summary)
-------------------------------
Field A (body rec)
Field A (body rec)
Field A (body rec)
etc...

So the layout "shows records from" Table A (which contains Field A).
And, specifying Field B as the sort order, the report works fine.

My problem comes when I want to print a single page of the report, i.e.
for one occurrence of Field B. If I specify "Print: current record",
obviously that relates to a single occurrence of Field A, which isn't
what I want - I want the current occurrence of Field B.

Thanks,

Carla Sloan.

I'm not sure if you want the manual process or a script, but it's the
same basics either way:

- Go to any layout with Field B on it

- Enter Find Mode

- Go to Field B

- Type in appropriate data to find

- Perform Find - this will find just the records where
Field B has the data you want

- Sort found records into order for the summary

- Go to Report Layout and print report (all records)

The other way is if you know which page number of the report you want
then you can simply print the report for all the records, but set the
normal Print Window options to print just page X or pages X to Y.

Thanks Harry. I should've been able to work that out for myself -
maybe I'm not cut out for this! I really appreciate your clear
explanation.

Carla.

We've all got to be learners at some stage. I've been using FileMaker
since version 1 last Millennium and I'm still learning useful tricks
from others in here. )
