The application fmrobot.exe (New Millennium Communications, http://www.newmillennium.com/) can consolidate a group of related FileMaker database files into a single database. Unfortunately it only runs on Windows and only runs with FileMaker developer (requires a FileMaker XML DDR file). I find the $500 price tag of FM Developer to be pretty high for this one-time conversion of a customer's database. Is there anyone in San Diego who has FileMaker Developer on the PC platform I could get together with to perform this conversion. I'd be happy to pay with beer, but if you want to charge me for your time we can easily work out terms. |

Jeff, you may be laboring under the illusion that converting .fp5 to .fp7 is as simple as previous versions. It is not. Even using FM Robot, the conversion process for even moderately complex solutions is running in DAYS not hours. Interesting picture, two beer-guzzling developers 3 days into it...BURRRP! "Whaddya mean, you lost the computer?" The Conversion whitepaper available on FMI website runs over 200 pages. Have you read this? As for borrowing someone's copy of FM near you, I recommend you start this Thursday at the local FMPUG meeting, info here: http://sandiego.fmpug.com/ and I'm sure you'll find out all you need to know and more about conversion issues. == ![]() |
