The bottom line matters? Sure it does, but which one? The relatively
tiny FM bottom line or the Apple bottom line?

Microsoft ships millions of game consoles at a loss and then creates a
new version to ship at a loss, how's that bottom line? They then
create a half-assed mp3 player that everyone knows sucks (even they
know it, thank you Mr. Allchin) and that statistically no one is going
to buy (and they make it BROWN), and not only that, they dump their
"plays for sure" partners right in the landfill to come up with their
own proprietary music purchase system that is going to lose them money
for, quite probably, forever, and yet you can't imagine a company
doing something that does not drop money right to the bottom line?

I only said "you might be mistaken", no one can know what FM or Apple
might do, but if you think that Apple would choose not to do something
because of simply how much it cost to implement, then I think you
should read more biographies of Steve Jobs.

Why would Apple or FileMaker spend the development money to change over
the interface of their entire product to satisfy only about 20% of its
customers? Even putting aside the Aqua/Cocoa controls, FileMaker is
FULL of old interfaces, dialogs, etc that haven't been updated in a
decade. This effects ALL of FMI's customers regardless of platform. I
agree that an upgrade is due, but development of such needs to be
cost-effective for them. If they get to the point where they decide
it's a good idea to redo the entire FMP interface, then it is likely not
to be platform-specific and it is likely to be an interface that is not
going to put off 80% of its customer base. It doesn't matter who owns
FileMaker -- what matters is the bottom line and what makes the most
sense for the people who use the product.
