Default Retrieving data from URL - 01-07-2007 , 03:30 PM

I would like to be able to retrieve data from my website and get it
into my FM database. I saw the OpenURL script step and got all excited,
but just realized it only launches a browser to the URL. I was hoping
it would return the contents of the URL (specifically the output of a
php script), which I could then parse. Is there a way to do what I was
trying?

I'm using FM Pro 8 on a Mac.

Thanks,
Anthony

Not natively.

You're going to have to spring for FMP 8.5 (for the Web Viewer functionality) or a plugin, such as Troi URL or yooWeb, either of which can load the web page into a FileMaker field.

With the Web Viewer in FMP 8.5, can I access the returned data through
a script? I would like the web page to return (for example) a list of
names, which I can then parse with a script and add to my FM database.

Thanks,
Anthony

The web viewer displays the page itself, as a browser would.

You would script insertion of the source from the viewer into a text field, which you can parse by whatever means you choose.

The plugins mentioned skip the display step, inserting the source directly into the text field.
