Default Repeating sub-summary headers on new report page? [FMP6] - 09-12-2005 , 02:59 AM

Report pages using sub-summaries for my new db seem to have one or two
records spill over onto each new page. This is making the report
cumbersome. Taking a page from word processors, is there a way to
repeat sub-summary "headers" for those cases where all records for any
sub-summary won't fit on the same page?

i.e., "HEADER 15", say, shows on page 4

and

then page 5 shows "HEADER 15 ... cont'd"

that type of thing. Is anything for this possible?

You didn't mention which version you use.
It's a well know bug on FMP4, theoretically cured in FMP6 or even in
5.5, I'm not sure), but it seems to come back from time to time.
In FMP4 you could do this : Mode / Layout / Layout setup then if you hit
and maintain Shift you get an extra option (on the top right)) to avoid
the split line.
Now, when this happens again, the best way is to adjust the body size
pixel by pixel and generally it goes away.
Sorry I don't have a better answer.

In the subject line, sorry <g>.

Split line? Are we referring to the same thing, I wonder <g>?

My difficulty is of having record entries spilling out onto the next
page without a recurring "header" for the sub-summary. I'm guessing I
didn't explain this very well. I'd prefer a "repeating header" on the
next page but a "widow-orphan" option will work if there is nothing
else.

I'm not sure what lines you are referring to. As I have FMP6, I
imagine that you're talking about that bug you mention re v4. That
hasn't come up for me, thank goodness <g>.

(?) Makes sense if you're referring to a line rather than records
spilling over.

I'll check out what you mean above re the shift key.

I tried to do this in FMP6 but no luck. Of course, had to go the
different route in pulldowns as menus have changed.

I was in layout mode to begin with and went to Layout setup in the
pulldown but couldn't figure out what to do from there re the shift
key.

I imagine that if this trick is available in FMP6, that a third tab
appears in the layout setup dialogue box after we press certain keys
(??).

Sorry, I seem I have misread your post as you were not complaining about
split line accross pages but for having a report split into pages
without warning.
Sorry for my mistake.
BTW, I don't have an easy solution for your problem except - maybe - to
count the lines and change page after 'n' lines, or use the 'Footer'
part with a sophisticated global where you put by script what you want.
