Default Reordering the database - 08-14-2011 , 10:06 PM

How can i reorder (not sort) the database permanently, according to a (or
more) field
(without exporting in a new database) ?

I have a database created with import folders (with images) and
i need reorder it according to "FileName" field.

I need this order (by "FileName" field) because
i import each day many images and the new images
go to the end.
But i want to have always the order according to "FileName" field.

You can't. New records are always added to the end, so even if you do
somehow "re-order" the records today, the next day's new records will be
added to the end anyway.

The only solution would be to have an Script that sorts the records, and
set the Preferences for that database to perform the Script when opening
the database (although it could take a while with LOTS of records and / or
a slow computer). This would give you the records in the correct order,
but as soon as you perfrom a Find or create / import new records they'll
be incorrectly ordered and you'll have to perform the Script to re-sort
them again.

Realistically, the sensible soultion is to Sort the records (or a smaller
Found Set) only when they NEED to be in that order, and otherwise not
worry about it.

Well always sort them before you try to use them.

Some of us have been using FM quite successfully to do what WE want for
many years.
If you have real problem someone will try to help you.

If you do not like FM go away and stop complaining.

Oh! By the way, Top posting only displays your ignorance.
