Related field instead of repeating -

I was going to use a related field, as could be indicated in Visual Quickpro
FMP5. Its on page 103, the Tips section.
I have a database where One record, a teacher, has to log hours in about 10-15
students for each month. Right now, my office assistant has a piece of paper
with one teacher and 10-15 students logs on it. She then opens up the Worklogs
file. The database entry layout looks just like the piece of paper she gets from
the teachers. I set it up so that the office assistant creates a new record when
she clicks the "Next New Log" button, but it stays on the same form, so it looks
like the form she got from the teacher. It's a self-join relationship (I think
is the term). Works fine, if a bit clumsy, I will fine tune it later.
Now according to the 2 pictures in the book, they showed it as a related-field
database and a repeating-field database. But the number of records was the same
in both pictures. How is that? I know in the repeating-field one, I could have
one record for the teacher with the multiple entries of students. In the
related-fields database, I would get a new record for each student.
