Honestly? Don't maximize your windows. It's sad -- stupid even -- but
if you're going to use pop-dialog windows, you are better off not having
ANY windows maximized. I usually make my windows as large as they can
go without actually being maximized. It's a complete waste of screen
real estate. It's completely ignorant of good app design. But that's
the way it is. It's been this way since the birth of FileMaker.
I'm sure it's not an easy fix for FileMaker, Inc., as they are aware of
the problem and they still haven't fixed it after all this time. It is
indeed difficult to find many Windows applications that DO allow you to
have one maximized window and another un-maximizd window...but those
apps ARE out there.

In a system with 8 files and a tabbed interface with all windows
maximised, I need 1 non-maximised window for writing letters regarding
the content of the window below.
Any time I create a new window, or select a window opened in advance,
that is not maximised, all other windows take on 'random' size and
position.
It makes no difference wether the windows are maximised before or after
creating the new one.
The FM version is 7.04 on W2K
What could be a solution for this odd behaviour? |
