Use a common intermediate file format. Access to Excel, Excel to FileMaker.

Hi All!

Is it possible to write a script to import data from a relational
database like Access?

Are there any online resources to give advice or tutorials for this?

Any advice would be most welcome!

Rob

Hi Glenn!

Thank you very much for the answer.

Ok, but does mean it is not viable to automate the procedure in any way?

You could export out of Access to a comma-separated text file & save to
disc. Then import this file into Filemaker. You could automate the
Filemaker end easily enough, so that you click a button & the file is
imported, with custom field mapping. etc.

I don't know if Access has any kind of automation involving exports. But
your problem would seem to boil down to, how do I get Access to
*automatically* export to a text file when I need it to?

Hi Rob,

Have you considered setting up a ODBC connection to your Access
database and scripting an ODBC import into FileMaker?
I don't have a copy of the original post, so I can't remember what
version of FileMaker your using, but ODBC into FileMaker began with
version 4.1.
This should do the trick.

Best regards,
