I have built a similar solution. A local file set that needs synching to a
server. I found no other solution other than naming the files differently.

I simply put a lowercase letter before the names of the local or server
files.

If you are not using FM Developer, changing the names in your solution can
be a bear. Check all your scripts and your relationships!

I hope that someone else will post a different solution for you, but....

I'm trying to build a solution with filemaker mobile 2.1 which requires
local hosting of files to synchronize.

After HotSynching with the Palm device, I want a local set of related
databases to copy the latest record additions to the main server.

I've found that filemaker gets confused with identical filenames and won't
execute the nested external subscripts even if you are pointing to a
specific IP address. The application seems to look locally first no matter
what.

Is there any workaround to this aside from changing all the file names
locally. I'd like to automatically download a fresh file set from the
server each night and not have to manually change all the file names and
relationships with the developer tool.

Thanks,
Avi
